Diabetes will not defeat me. For almost 23 years I have been learning how to live and deal with being Type 1. Day in and day out. I train for events so that I can continue to remind myself that I am in charge of the diabetes and that it is not in charge of me. In the past 23 years, with the support of my family and friends, I have run 20 marathons, approximately 30 half marathons, and sprinkled in a few triathlons. In October of 2013, I will tackle my first half ironman triathlon in Miami Florida. I get to tackle this disease, because I choose to take it on head first. That is a lot of blood sugar checks, too many doctor office visits, a zillion finger pricks, and countless insulin pump supplies. But I get to. There are so many others unable to do so. Please support me in my efforts to help those who do not have the means to tackle this 24/7 disease by donating to Insulin for Life.
Thank you to Julie and those who donated financially to IFL as a demonstration of support for those with diabetes. Many lives will be saved as a direct result of your efforts.
